Crossroads is
“Albuquerque’s Power Band,” that originated in 1992 in Albuquerque,
NM. The members of Crossroads are comprised from different areas of
the United States, averaging over 20 years experience of performing
professionally.
The music performed, ranges from horn driven
rancheras, cumbias, traditional conjunto, boleros and salsa to
country, jazz, big band, rock, funk and oldies. Crossroads is
fronted by vocalist Joy Baca and is accompanied by a full band
including keyboards, accordion and horns. Crossroads has performed
through out the southwest including New Mexico, Texas, Arizona,
Colorado and Wyoming to which their music can be heard on the
airwaves of these areas.
Crossroads first CD
entitled, “Culture Walk” was released in August 1997. The recording
received seven award nominations, and two award winnings for Cumbia,
Salsa y Tropical song of the year and Instrumental song of the year
from the New Mexico Hispano Music Association. At the beginning of
the new Millennium, is when Crossroads sophomore CD entitled, “Nuevo
Caminos,” was released. The release obtained a nomination from the
2001 New Mexico Music Industry Awards for Best Musical Production
Traditional Style Hispanic. Crossroads announces their third CD to
be released in June 2006, which debuts the band into the Tejano
Music scene.
In September 2005 and
October 2006, Crossroads was recognized as the “Best Out-of-State
Band,” by the Tejano Academy, located in San Antonio, TX.

March 1997- Joy Baca and Phil
Baca (vocalist, bass) were invited along with other several NM
artists to come together and record a song for the, “Estas Voces,”
CD benefiting Youth Development Incorporated, (YDI). Crossroads
music was also featured.
August 1997- Vocalist Joy Baca
along with NM All Star Band opens the 1997 NM Hispano Music
Association Awards Show.
August 1997- Crossroads
is nominated for seven awards with the New Mexico Hispano Music
Association. Crossroads wins awards for Instrumental Song of the
Year and Cumbia, Salsa, Tropical Song of the Year.
1998- Crossroads was featured
in the Nationally known, “Antena Magazine.”
August 1998- Crossroads
performs to a crowd of over 40,000 at Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza
Annual Summer Fest.
January 2000- Crossroads
sophomore CD entitled, “Nuevo Caminos,” was released that included
five (5) original songs written by Joy Baca and Matthew Gutierrez
(guitar).
January 2001- Crossroads
nominated for Best Musical Production Traditional Style Hispanic for
the New Mexico Music Industry Awards.
May 2001- “Nuevo
Caminos,” is nationally distributed.
March 2002- Crossroads debuts
in Tejano market at the 21st Annual Tejano Music Awards
Show Fan Fair in San Antonio, TX
January 2005- Crossroads
performs at the 15th Annual New Mexico Hispano Music
Association Awards Show.
September 2005-
Crossroads performs at festival in Denver, CO with a record high
weekend attendance of over
100,000.
September 2005- Crossroads wins
Best Out of State Band / Group at the 2nd Annual Academy
of Tejano Artists and Musicians Award Show. Crossroads performs at
the awards show.
June 2006- Crossroads
third CD, self-titled is released, containing four (4) original
songs written by Joy Baca and Matthew Gutierrez.
October 2006 - Crossroads
is nominated for "Best Orquesta" and "Best out of State Band /
Group". Crossroads wins Best Out of State Band / Group at the 3rd
Annual Academy of Tejano Artists and Musicians Award Show.
